The role of a HR Manager within a law firm is generally the same as any other sector, what differs within the professional services is there are normally higher standards to adhere to.

Why did you become a HR Manager ?
Purely by chance, I was given the opportunity of developing a HR Department from scratch for a price comparison company and my career has developed from there.

Where's the best place to go if you want to find out what's really going on in the office?
I always keep in touch with what's going on by remaining approachable and trustworthy staff usually keep you in the loop with things.

What's the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is working with people, ensuring a fair, equal and happy environment for them to work in.

What's the toughest thing about your job?
Generally speaking, I think it's difficult when companies can't invest in training and developing their staff, as well as redundancies, I have faced both in the past and it's incredibly frustrating and heartbreaking when you have to let good employees go.

How does HR within law differ from working in other sectors?
Working with Lawyers!

Who has been the biggest influence in your career to date?
There have been a few, I have been fortunate enough to work within the NHS and my local borough council, both had great managers, one a ward sister Lesley Potter and another wonderful Manager Jeane Lowe. Both have influenced my managing skills and I believe I learnt from the best with both of them.

Which person outside the legal sector do you most admire?
I admire Karen Brady, a working mother who has influenced a male dominated environment.
