How do you like to start the day?
Early morning coffee at Federal on Deansgate in Manchester.
What’s your favourite object in your office/home office?
Eames Soft Pad Chair – it makes me think I am in Mad Men!
Who is your closest colleague?
I am far too diplomatic to answer that one!
Do you have a favourite family heirloom?
My dad’s old watch. I think he bought it in the 1950’s but it dates back to the year of his birth, 1931.
What’s your favourite song of all time?
It has got to be the Bobby Womack – Across 110th Street.
What’s your favourite play?
Macbeth – treachery, witches and moving trees!
Who’s your favourite movie star?
They don’t come any cooler than Marlon Brando.
What is your favourite book?
Martin Eden by Jack London.
What book are you reading right now?
Shuggie Bain It is about a young lad growing up in Glasgow in the 1980’s. I am half way through it, (so don’t tell me the ending).
What book do you wish you had written?
As a criminal lawyer, I wish I could write a crime novel – something like The Grifters by Jim Thompson.
What’s the greatest invention of all time?
You can’t beat a classic watch.
Is there a sport you wish you could play?
I can already play squash, I just wish I was better at it!
Who inspires you in business?
Anyone who puts people before profit (but still makes the profit!)
In the office do you dress up, dress down or somewhere in between?
Somewhere in between – I try and go for a smart casual look, although I’m not sure if I pull it off.
Where do you go to relax?
It invariably involves exercise or food and drink (or Manchester United).
What country have you always wanted to visit?
I’d like to see more of the Scandinavian countries but given the amount of “Scandi noir” we see these days I’m starting to have second thoughts!
Besides your phone, what do you always have with you?
I don’t exactly carry it around with me but by gym bag is never far away.
What’s the best part of your job?
Landing a new case is great, winning one is even better.
How do you unwind after work?
I am the master of the three minute power nap!
Finally, what’s your guilty pleasure?
1970’s funk and soul (normally when there is just me and the dog in the house).
