Yorkshire and the North East In house legal salary survey
BCL Legal has conducted our 2014 salary survey for in-house lawyers in the Yorkshire and the North East. The survey was location specific and results were sourced directly from in-house lawyers across the region.
The results are interesting with most lawyers (73%) receiving an overall increase in their total package. However, the percentage increase varied across the qualification levels. Lawyers at a mid level (3-5 years’ PQE) received the greatest increase in total package value and proportionately performed much better than other qualification levels, particularly the 7-10 years’ PQE level.
Across the region, as well as most lawyers receiving an increase in their total package, around three quarters of respondents received a bonus, up slightly from last year. Additionally, for most respondents the level of bonus paid, increased.
Packages remain comprehensive with the around half of lawyers receiving a car or car allowance, and the majority receiving, private medical care and a generous pension contribution.
In-house legal teams in the region, and across the UK, are growing. With this growth and the increasing demand from law firms for lawyers from a commercial and corporate background, particularly at the mid-level, it is expected that 2014 will witness an increase in salaries and benefits as organisations try to secure the best people. It is a competitive market at present with a shortage of talent and an increase in demand for this talent.
