Why should I use a legal recruitment consultant?
As a specialist legal recruiter I should hopefully be well placed to answer this question!!
However until a few years ago I am happy to admit that I was not the biggest fan of recruitment consultants. As a junior lawyer I found it extremely frustrating when I received calls at my desk during a bust working day asking me if I was happy in my job and whether I wanted to talk about new roles. I still find it quite amusing that having spent the last 18 months working as a legal recruitment consultant I still receive daily emails from some agencies regarding new jobs.
So whilst there are many reasons why I would certainly advocate using a legal recruitment consultant. I would caveat this by saying the key point is to choose the right legal consultant. So how do you choose the right agency?
First of all there are different types of agencies. Some agencies are generalist i.e. they recruit for a range of professions from professional services, finance, engineering and legal. There are also legal specialists – like BCL Legal, who only cover the legal sector.
Our recommendation would always be to work with a legal specialist agency. We have the benefit of knowing the local markets we work in and having strong working relationships with the firms we recruit for. So what does that mean for you the candidate?
In short it means we are better placed to advise you on the market conditions, talk to the firms about your situation and experience directly and find out what they will want you to demonstrate at interview.
By letting us do the leg work for you, it saves you time and hassle. We will manage the whole process for you, help you draft your CV so that it is tailored to the role you are applying for and prepare for interview. After the interview(s) we also help you manage offers, negotiate salaries and ask difficult questions on your behalf. We act as an objective sounding board and will give you our honest opinion to ensure you secure the right job for you.
