A social scene guide - what does Leeds have to offer?

To most lawyers, the social aspects of their role are equally as important as the quality of work and career progression opportunities.

So, now that for the most part, COVID restrictions have been lifted, what does Leeds have to offer?

• This summer, make sure you head to Granary Wharf to sample craft beers and artisan gins at the Water Lane Boathouse in their glorious waterfront beer garden, to watch the world go by beside the canal. If it’s gin you’re in the market for, the Lazy Lounge (reopening 31st July) is home to one of the most extensive, and unique, gin collections in Leeds.

• In the heart of the city centre, you will find plenty of independent bars to cater to all tastes. Spend an afternoon enjoying the stunning roof terraces of Headrow House, sampling a classic cocktail or two from their rooftop bar, and Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen, a glorious three-story venue in the Northern Quarter. With a number of luxurious cocktail bars around, this part of town is a must for those who like their drinks sophisticated and delicious! Alternatively, the rustic charm of The Watermark is a must, as well as sampling the creative mixes that have put Vice and Virtue on the map.

• One of my personal top picks would have to be El Gato Negro on the corner of Park Row and Bond Street. It’s perfect for lunchtime or an evening as it houses both a restaurant and a bar. You can enjoy everything from stunning tapas, to sophisticated summery drinks and unusual concoctions in the early hours at this stunning Yorkshire stone-clad former bank.

• Leeds is a welcoming and inclusive city that can be enjoyed by all and Leeds’ LGBT+ nightlife has a great reputation. The Freedom Quarter is a vibrant and bustling, with a host of fantastic LGBT+ venues to choose from.
