West Midlands is UK's leading employment hotspot

A recent article on thebusinessdesk.com gave some encouraging news for The West Midlands.

“The West Midlands has continued to be the UK’s employment hotspot with latest figures showing the region leading the way in terms of job creation. New figures from the Office for National Statistics show the region recorded a 32,000 fall in its jobless total during the October to December 2014 quarter”.

But what of the East Midlands and specifically the in-house legal market?? The number of new in-house roles coming to the market has remained high since mid 2014. The spread of these roles is fairly even with 53% of new roles registered being West Midlands based and 47% being positioned in The East Midlands.

Possibly of more relevance is that the overall number of new legal vacancies that have arisen in the first 6 weeks of the year is 40% up on vacancies registered this time last year. There is a lot of talk about the growth of the in-house legal sector which is definitely a reality.

2015 has started well for the in-house legal community with a number of new hire roles arising as opposed to ‘re-fills’. Of course it doesn’t matter to us if it is a new role or a re-fill but for the ‘growth’ of the overall in-house legal community new roles do bode well for the size of the sector.
