The wonderful West Midlands

Having spent the last year commuting back and forth to the big smoke on a weekly basis I am beyond happy to be back home and working in the Birmingham, having recently joined the team at BCL Legal.

Don’t get me wrong. London is a thriving, vibrant city and I enjoy spending time there - but I’m a Brummie and I belong here. Plus I must admit I won’t miss the daily tube journeys, squished into a carriage with hundreds of other commuters!

Needless to say there were times growing up I didn’t always feel the same way. Like many, I moved away for University; to study law at Leeds University and completed my training contract in London. I even managed a stint working abroad in Sydney. But each time I find myself back here. So what is it about the Midlands that always pulls me back? Incredible friends and family – check.Affordable cost of living - check.Exciting opportunities in the legal sector – check. Work life balance – check. Great city lifestyle, with the countryside on your doorstep – check.

Coming back after a year away there is certainly a buzz about the City and surrounding areas, with the fantastic redevelopment of Birmingham New Street “Grand Central”, the new Resorts World complex near Birmingham Airport, the £174m transformation of Wolverhampton City Centre and the regeneration of Telford Town centre all bringing fantastic new business opportunities to the area.
