One sore nipple but feeling very happy
One sore nipple but feeling very happy
To take away the stress of work (and my own kids) I run regularly and last weekend I completed the Birmingham BUPA Great Run in a personal best time (I won’t bore you with the details). Time and time again I am reminded of the benefits of getting your trainers on and going for a run. I simply can’t cope if I don’t get at least 25 miles under my belt during the course of the week.
I’ve read a lot about the benefits of running in coping with depression and read many stories of depressed people coming back from the brink once they had taken up running. I read once about a study that showed that employees were happier in their jobs when their manager ran regularly then those whose manager did no such thing!
We live in a very stressful and expensive world and earning money to survive and maybe have a little left over is very tough and demands a huge amount of effort and time. If your earnings have increased in the last 4 years you deserve a huge pat on the back given we were in the worst depression since the War. If you fall into this category its quite possible that like me you have a hobby that keeps you sane, keeps you on the level and helps you deal with the stresses of life.
Its tough to fit your hobby in and around work and be committed to it but in order to get the most out of your career and be a more approachable human being around the office its important to have an outside interest. Its just a shame that mine gives me a sore nipple!
