North West in-house lawyer salaries
BCL Legal has conducted our 2014 salary survey for in-house lawyers in the North West. The survey was location specific and results were sourced directly from in-house lawyers in the North West.
The results are interesting with most lawyers (68%) receiving an overall increase in their total package. However, the percentage increase varied across the qualification levels. Lawyers at a mid level (3-5 years’ PQE) received the greatest increase in total package value and proportionately performed much better than other qualification levels, particularly the 7-10 years’ PQE level.
Although most lawyers received an increase in their total package the number receiving a bonus fell slightly from the previous year. However, for many the level of bonus paid increased.
Packages remain comprehensive with the majority of lawyers receiving a car or car allowance, private medical care and a generous pension contribution.
In-house legal teams in the region, and across the UK, are growing. With this growth and the increasing demand from law firms for lawyers from a commercial and corporate background, particularly at the mid-level, it is expected that 2014 will witness an increase in salaries and benefits as organisations try to secure the best people. It is a competitive market at present with a shortage of talent and an increase in demand for this talent.
