New Year, New Career…from Courtroom Drama to BCL Legal.

The start of a new year equals a new beginning for many and that’s exactly what 2016 has been for me!

Ever since school days, I’ve chased the dream of being a criminal defence solicitor. Inspired by intriguing John Grisham novels and exciting twists and turns of legal TV dramas, I set off to Kent University to study for a law degree (LLB) followed by a master’s degree (LLM) and finally the Legal Practice Course (LPC). Little did I know that my journey to qualification was just beginning and so was the battle in securing the very much sought after training contract.

Determined to “make it”, I worked as a paralegal and police station representative for almost two years before being offered a training contract at a Legal 500 criminal defence firm.

Fast forward two years, I qualified as a Solicitor in 2014 and specialised in criminal defence, extradition and prison law.

My days were occupied with representing client’s best interests and protecting their rights be it at court, police station and/or prison. However, the stark reality of legal aid cuts and many sleepless nights at police stations followed by an early rise and shine at court made me re-think my career options.

Equipped with over 5 years of private practice experience, I decided to make the transition into legal recruitment by joining BCL Legal in January 2016 where I place private client solicitors into permanent roles across Central London.
