Maternity Leave, see you in spring 2018!
This is to be my final blog for nine months or so. Those clients and candidates who I’ve spoken with regularly will know I’m soon to be a first time mum; any tips will be greatly received! My full time job will go from managing a busy desk of Insurance and Private Client roles across Yorkshire to changing nappies and trying my best at raising a small human.
Am I ready? Yes, as much as I can be and that’s down to the support I’ve received from my colleagues and BCL Legal as a whole. The commute from Chester to Manchester is not the easiest at the best of times, but I’ve been afforded the opportunity to work from home which gives me those essential later starts on a morning – my usual routine is a 6am start to feed my horse, so getting up at 7.30 is bliss!
Anytime I’ve had appointments or needed a ‘duvet day’ I’ve been able to take some time out, safe in the knowledge that my work won’t suffer as my team pick up my emails and calls. It’s made me realise just how important culture is in the workplace and I hope everyone else going on/returning from maternity leave can have this. It takes a huge pressure off a demanding and tiring time. It’s no coincidence that BCL Legal has been voted a top 100 small company to work for two years in a row.
If you’re not receiving the support or you don’t feel the culture is right for you at work anymore, don’t feel that you don’t have options – A consultant will be able to discuss with you the culture at each of the firms we work with and talk you through this. We’re here as a contingency service, so it’s our job to get it right for you and know those finer details about our clients.
I’m the second in my team to go on maternity leave this year (there must be something in the water) and as BCL Legal is continuing to grow and establish itself as the number 1 legal recruiter we would welcome more great people to join us. Whether you’re a lawyer looking to re-train in something new and rewarding or a recruiter interested in an opportunity with a Top 100 small company, speak to Amy Martin for a confidential discussion.
If you’re reading this and are interested in opportunities across Yorkshire within the legal sector, please do call the office and speak with Catherine Henry – all of my roles and clients are being taken care of in my absence, so we will continue to be instructed on new roles every day.
I’m going to go familiarise myself with Ewan the Sheep. I’ll be back in the spring 2018 – maybe I’ll see you there!
