It’s who you know not what you know
We have all heard this before it’s who you know not what you know. As a recruiter it’s part of the job, asking a candidate who else you know. It’s something I have always done and will continue to do and if I am honest, it is how I get to know people in the market. I focus specifically on the Yorkshire market within residential property, it’s small and lots of candidates know each other as they used to work at the same firm or know them from working with them on the other side. This is why it’s such an imperative question for me to ask either who else do you know? Or if you aren’t looking and the role isn’t right for you, do you know of anyone else who I should be speaking to?
At BCL Legal we really appreciate referrals, in fact it’s such a massive help to us that we send all of our candidates who do so a lovely bottle of wine or even vouchers. Often asking this question people are every receptive and are keen to help, if they don’t feel comfortable passing details on then they can always have my number and speak to their friend first, asking them if they would like to give me a call and I am more than happy to do both. However, sometimes people don’t know of anyone or don’t feel comfortable passing on their details which is fine, I just want to let you know that all I do is ask the question are you looking for a new role or not? If it’s a no that is fine we just stay in touch for future reference and if they say yes, then we help them as much as we can to find and secure a new role. So if you aren’t actively seeking a new position but feel that you might know of someone within residential property who is, please get in touch with me on 0113 323 4904.
