Industrial Disease is predicted to continue to grow as a specialism in the personal injury and insurance market in the next 10 years. As a recruiter specialising in personal injury and insurance in Liverpool and Merseyside, I have seen first hand the demand for lawyers within this practice area.
Based on the number of industrial disease vacancies we were instructed on this time last year in the North West versus the number we have now, we have seen an increase of about 30%. Firms are heavily investing in this and whilst Noise Induced Hearing Loss claims dominate current claims, there is a steady increase in asbestos-related disease claims including mesothelioma.
The demand is certainly outweighing supply at present and some North West firms are being proactive and retraining skilled personal injury lawyers within this specialism. It is a positive step in the personal injury market as firms are buying in work and generating claims, but also appreciate this is a specialism that requires lawyers with genuine skill and expertise. If you are a personal injury lawyer with a niche in industrial disease expertise, prepare to be in demand! Equally, if you are a lawyer with even with a small amount of disease related experience, now could be the time to transfer into this expanding area of law.
