Happy New Year – Happy New Career
After the festive season we find a surge in candidates seeking new positions, why is this?
In the run up to Christmas things tend to slow down on the job search front. Candidates are busy finalising work before the Christmas break. Clients are equally busy and find it difficult to squeeze in interviews. Given that December tends to be a three week working month, with a lot of firms closing for the Christmas break, this is perhaps unsurprising.
In January, we all return to work after having perhaps just over a week off. We start to make the usual resolutions, attend the gym more, diet, plan more holidays etc. It tends to be the time of year when we start thinking of new possibilities and in some cases new jobs.
Things start at pace in January, some budgets begin afresh, partners have new plans for team expansion and firm growth, therefore vacancies are on the rise. This ties in with the fact that we always see very high numbers of new candidate registrations in January. These candidates will enviably leave their jobs, thus creating more new jobs.
Christmas can be a time of reflection; we spend time off with our family and evaluate what is important to us. This often includes rethinking our main drivers and main reasons for going to work in the first place. We find that many candidates set knew goals at this time of year. Things that they are looking to achieve in the New Year. It may be that you just want to see what is on the market, and see if there is something that may be of interest. Conversely you may reach the realisation that you are not happy in your job and can not contemplate another year of the same.
Whatever your situation may be, here at BCL Legal we are happy to discuss things with you on a confidential basis. This can include offering advice on what the current market is like for your discipline or giving a realistic appraisal of your current situation and the likelihood of being able to achieve your career goals by moving elsewhere.
