A great year for Birmingham
As we have approached the New Year there are lots of things to celebrate and look forward to. It is also a good time to reflect on the past years achievements and successes and look forward to the future.
In my little world it is has been a bit of a busy year! Starting out with a house move, returning to my netball club after 2 years out through injury, discovering park run (love it!), getting married (best day of my life!) and lots and lots of fun times in between with my BCL team and with family and friends. It has also been a fantastic year for Birmingham! Looking around the City, the building works continue, the new HSBC offices are going up at a rapid pace, not to mention the Big City Plan and HS2. Within the legal sector there have also been some moves! With Pinsent Masons moving into their new offices on Colmore Row and DAC Beachcroft heading to Five Ways.
The legal market has been extremely buoyant in Birmingham in 2017. It has been great to have the opportunity to work with so many of the firms from the large internationals to the established regional practices. One of the best parts of my job is getting to meet partners, junior staff and HR advisors from the different firms in order to find out more about their work, the teams and the opportunities for new joiners so that I can then match the right candidate with the right job.
We have also had a busy year sponsoring the BTSS and for the first year, sponsoring the Birmingham Law Society. From sports tournaments to careers seminars, lunch time talks to wine tasting, we have had a great year meeting lawyers from the firms across the City and building our professional network. We look forward to many more events next year, kicking off with our Newly Qualified Solicitors seminar on Thursday 18th January downstairs at Pure Bar, Waterloo Street with tips and advice for all 2018 qualifiers (if that is you and you want to register then please email me at chloematthews@bcllegal.com)
In addition, as a huge sports fan, I am so happy to hear the fantastic news today that Birmingham has successfully won its bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022! This is not just amazing news for sports fans but is certain to mean further development, investment and growth for Birmingham, just another reason why Birmingham is such a fantastic place to live and work- https://www.sportbirmingham.org/latest-news/2017/12/huge-boost-for-sport-in-the-city-as-birmingham-2022-is-officially-confirmed.
