Falling Pound Sterling + growth of the manufacturing industry = A great new job?
It was only a few months ago that the British manufacturing industry, which makes up roughly 10% of the UK’s economy, was feared to be falling into the abyss following the EU referendum result in June. Whilst we are certainly not out of the woods and are yet to see the full effect that leaving the European Union will bring, the news in this morning’s Financial Times stating that the manufacturing industry is currently benefitting from the fall in the value of the pound, is very welcome. This is particularly true for the knock on effect it has had of raising employment rates over the past three months.
A number of our clients in the manufacturing industry have reported promising figures from the last quarter, despite import costs steadily rising, causing businesses greater costs to manufacture their products due to the higher price of materials.
From a legal recruitment perspective, we have certainly noticed a positive change in fortune in the manufacturing sector. This has translated into BCL Legal having been instructed this quarter by a number of manufacturers looking to grow their legal teams. Some of our recent assignments have included; one client looking to hire their first UK-based lawyer, another looking to add three lawyers to their legal team and another manufacturing business looking to add two new lawyers to a team that has been established for some time, showing clear signs of growth.
Importantly, these opportunities have been across a broad range of levels, disciplines, budgets and geographical locations in the Midlands. Therefore, if you are a business looking to hire an excellent lawyer from a strong technical background or a lawyer looking to find a new position in a sector set for growth, then we in the in-house team at BCL Legal would be delighted to assist you with your requirements!
