Corporate Social Responsibility Cup

For the last couple of years BCL Legal has been shortlisted in the Sunday Times Best Small Companies to Work top 100. All of us who work at BCL, whether Director, Consultant or Team Administrator, are immensely proud to play our part in the success of the company. In the feedback that we received from the Best Companies survey it was apparent that what we weren’t very good at (in fact we did virtually nothing) was giving a little back to the community by was of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). So, during a Director’s meeting earlier in the year we decided that 2017 would be the first year in which BCL Legal awarded its CSR trophy to the team who raised the most for their charity.

All teams have played their part whether it be a Charity Quiz night as organised by our Birmingham office, our Manchester office conquering the Yorkshire Three Peaks in dire weather conditions or team Yorkshire who slept rough in Manchester City centre on a cold and wet November night.

Earlier this week I joined my colleagues Raj Sidhu and Ria Karnik at a Trussell Trust run food Bank close to Waterloo Station in London. The Trussell Trust is a fantastic charity that runs a national network of food banks throughout the country. Their 400 network of food banks provides a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK. Last year, they gave 1,182,954 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis. More information on what they do can be found at www.trusselltrust.org

We found the experience to be humbling, rewarding and incredibly satisfying and it made us realise that we are immensely privileged yet often don’t appreciate what we have. A small gesture of kindness and a few hours out of our working week meant so much to those who have fallen on hard times.

We’ll soon know if we have made the top 100 in the Best Companies list and hopefully we will have risen a few places compared to last year. Even if we don’t make the list all of us at BCL have done something different this year and can feel that through our CSR we have helped others and raised some money for various charities. I think we all want to win the inaugural BCL Corporate Social Responsibility cup! We’ll keep you posted on who wins and how much we raised of our charities.
