BCL Legal Sponsors FELT Launch Party in Manchester
On Thursday 22nd October, BCL Legal was delighted to sponsor the launch party for this year’s FELT events. FELT is a sub-group of MTSG and has been set up for trainees at Firms with Eight or Less Trainees. The event took place at Cane and Grain in the Northern Quarter and attracted over 60 young legal professionals. A massive thanks to Adam Hattersley – secretary of FELT and trainee solicitor at McHale & Co Solicitors – for organising such a great event.
It was a fantastic turn out and I met some lovely people. It was great to speak to junior lawyers who are clearly passionate about the law and their training and hearing their confidence grow as they get to grips with their training seats.
It was clear how important the role FELT plays; I spoke to a couple of trainees who were either the sole trainee at their firm or one of two trainees and they told me how crucial it was to meet other trainees and be able to discuss and share training contract experiences. BCL Legal have been involved with MTSG for many years so we were really pleased to sponsor the launch party for this year’s FELT calendar. FELT has been even more important in recent times as firms significantly reduced their trainee intake in 2008 as a result of the huge downturn in the legal market, in addition to deferring a large number of training contracts. Firms previously not categorised as FELT now fall into this. Trainee intake is definitely on the rise due to the fantastic upturn in the market this year but FELT will continue to play a crucial part of the MTSG.
Training in a smaller firm holds a number of advantages, as you may find yourself with greater responsibilities during your training than your contemporaries at bigger firms. In addition to this, the current market has allowed those from smaller firms to step up to regional or national top tier practices and we have successfully helped a large number of lawyers make that transition this year.
If you want to fulfil your ambition of stepping up to a larger firm, please call BCL Legal for some confidential advice and support.
