BCL Legal launches its first 'design your own seminar'
This year’s seminar season is well underway, with over ten seminars having already taken place in Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds in recent weeks. After a hugely successful season in the Midlands last year, BCL Legal is back in Birmingham throughout March and April with two legal update seminars planned already – and that’s just for starters.
On 23rd March, BCL Legal and DLA Piper are joining forces once again to bring in-house lawyers the latest legal updates in 2012. To kick off the day, Professor Edwin Peel will be giving an update session on Contract Law. Professor Peel, a Fellow and Tutor in Law at Keble College, Oxford since 1994, is also a qualified Solicitor. He continues to practice as a Consultant to Clifford Chance LLP. There will be four separate sessions throughout the day, each with two legal updates running concurrently. Updates include corporate and international trade, litigation/regulatory and pensions, commercial/procurement and real estate/planning, and finally employment and competition. The format effectively allows you to ‘design your own’ seminar, and we hope this will give those in attendance a day packed full of relevant updates from some of the best in the field.
On 19th and 26th April, we move to Browne Jacobson in Birmingham for another busy morning session. First on the agenda is an update on the grace period for the Privacy and Electronic Commerce (Amendment) Regulations that comes to an end in May. What will happen after May this year? Browne Jacobson’s experts will be discussing this further. Also planned for the day are presentations on the changes to Consumer law and Data Protection Legislation. With the European Commission now proposing new fines of up to 2% of global turnover for a breach of data protection law Browne Jacobson will be looking at what can be expected from the new data protection proposals.
To bring the seminar to a close, there will also be a session looking at classic drafting errors (particularly in outsourcing contracts) and why the words “genuine pre-estimate of loss” could undo a customer’s efforts to make liquidated damages a non-exclusive remedy. What would you use instead? Finally, there will be a presentation on “exit plans”, raising all sorts of questions such as “what hidden dangers lie in providing ‘termination services’” – and “how can you make exit an easier process for both parties”?
