BCL Graduates attends University of Northampton careers in Law day
On 16th of October BCL Graduates attended the Careers in Law day at the University of Northampton. The fair was an opportunity for students, who have just completed their LLB, LPC or BPTC, to meet organisations who can provide law graduates with opportunities after their studies.
The fair attracted post graduates as well as under gradates seeking advice on starting their legal career as well as advice on CV writing, interview skills and career planning. We spoke to a number of graduates about the importance of getting it right and over 40 students registered on the BCL Graduates site.
Some of the graduates we met have already secured their training contracts but aren’t due to start with their firms until September 2015 and in some cases not until 2016. Other graduates we met have found themselves in a position where they have finished their academic and practical training but have not yet secured a training contract; such is the high competition for training contracts and pupillages. The Careers in Law Fair provided both groups of graduates an opportunity to meet organisations who can assist them in securing paralegal work or other law related work.
BCL Graduates is free for graduates to register. Law firms can very easily search for graduates based on location, academics, qualifications etc. to find those that meet their skills and criteria. Law firms are able to use BCL Legal to manage the process of interview to placement on their behalf or they can simply download CVs and contact the graduates directly. Already over 75 law firms are using the service and many graduates are finding new jobs through the site. Most recently clients who have been searching for their next legal interns and paralegals include logistics business Yodel Ltd, Pets at home Ltd, Wright Hassall in the Midlands and enact conveyancing ltd.
