A time to reflect

It’s that time of year again – a time to be merry, spend excessive amounts of money and over-indulge. It’s also the time that many of us reflect on the year gone by and start thinking about how the next year can be better.

It’s been quite the year too, Brexit, Trump and Honey G aside, I find it hard to believe that this same year I was still in the Royal Navy! It’s been a steep learning curve getting to grips with civilian recruitment, particularly in the legal sector. We work vertical markets at BCL Legal so I specialise in personal injury and insurance roles across the Yorkshire and North East. I’ve really enjoyed learning about my sector and getting to know my clients and candidates alike.

I’ve had some great results in my first year at BCL Legal, I’ve secured the dream part time role for candidates, the position closer to home that stops that 2 hour commute and the excellent pay rise. I’ve also experienced the harder side of recruitment – cancelled interviews, slow processes and duplicated CVs. The top of my wish list is for more trust next year; I am always honest with my candidates and I hope this will develop my relationships further with everyone I work with. If you’ve already applied for a role – tell me, I might be able to help anyway, I might not, but I can tell you either way. If you’re not sure about an interview – tell me, I might be able to ease your concerns or I might just say “yes, you’re right, lets cancel that one”, but your reputation will remain in tact. The good news is that LinkedIn is predicting British employers will continue recruiting at the same pace in 2017 despite uncertainties with the EU, so if your time to reflect feels you leaving a little bit deflated about going back to your current employer in the New Year, we’re here to help and we expect to be instructed on lots of exciting opportunities in January and into Spring.
