A Day in the Life of an Interim Recruiter
I’ve worked in interim recruitment for ten years now and can quite honestly say that each and every day is different.
I like most interim recruiters try and stick to some sort of routine, but most days that goes completely out of the window, depending on new instructions coming in from clients and new candidates registering who are immediately available for work.
A typical day for me begins at 7am when I start my daily commute from Hampshire into the City. I usually go through my emails on the train and flag anything urgent which might need immediate action upon arriving in the office. The number of emails in my inbox can vary depending on how many roles I am advertising at any given time. On average, I’d say that I have anywhere between 30 and 50 new emails each morning. (More if I’m advertising for Document Review Lawyers.)
I usually get into the Office for 8.30am and action any emails which I have flagged as urgent on my way in. At 9am my colleague and I usually have a quick catch up on our live roles.
The rest of the day is spent searching jobs, speaking to clients and candidates, setting up interviews, taking feedback, meeting candidates or clients, or setting up those meetings and making placements.
In the interim world there is really no order to events in any given day and this is because we just don’t know what might come through that day which requires urgent action. So in the words of Forrest Gump interim recruitment can be likened to “a box chocolates” because you really don’t know what might come next. The majority of the roles we recruit to, on the interim side have a fast turnaround and we could get instructed to find one lawyer who is immediately available to start the next day or sometimes a whole team. We have been known to place a team of 20 lawyers within 48 hours!
Interim recruitment is all about effective time management, prioritising your workload and keeping a lot of plates spinning ; and its definitely not for the faint hearted, especially when you’re looking for a team of 20 lawyers, with a specific language skill, no conflicts and available to start work the next day!
At BCL Legal we are able to supply experienced and fully referenced qualified lawyers and paralegals with language skills that span the globe, on a temporary basis.
