A day in the life of a new legal recruiter
Two months ago, I started working at BCL Legal and embarked on a new career in legal recruitment.
Prior to this, I worked in conveyancing for my entire working life: I started at the assistant level right through to conveyancing manager.
I reached a point where it felt time for a new challenge and after months of soul searching, I decided to take the plunge. It wasn’t an easy decision to make. I had juggled full-time work and study to become qualified – all while raising a family. I knew I wasn’t happy in conveyancing, but I didn’t want to throw away the hard work and effort I’d put in for the past 15 years.
Using my knowledge of the market and the skills required to succeed in the sector, legal recruitment seemed like a natural path to take: helping future professionals embark on a career in property law.
The transition has been a really exciting one for me and I’m enjoying the challenges that a day in the life of a recruiter brings.
There’s an exceptional training programme at BCL and I’m really enjoying learning so many new skills while having the support of a great team around me who are always on hand to help me with any questions I have.
What became apparent very quickly was that there was so much more to recruitment than I originally thought!
We work incredibly hard to source the perfect candidate in accordance with the specific requirements of our client’s role. This involves many hours on the telephone, scouring job boards and our extensive database for the ideal fit.
Although recruitment can be stressful, we also know how to unwind and there’s a great social side to it too. We work hard but we also play hard!
When I worked in conveyancing, my opinion of recruitment consultants and agencies were sometimes negative – due to having some bad experiences with companies who seemed more interested in ‘the sale’ than what was right for me.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the ethos at BCL Legal very different.
We are confident that we have the perfect opportunity for every candidate and we work hard to find the right candidate for the job.
