Sole Legal Counsel - Retail - East Midlands

We are working exclusively with a UK retailer who are seeking an experienced commercial contracts lawyer to become the businesses first ever legal hire and sole legal counsel. This business partners with the biggest brands and retail businesses in the world and has experienced huge growth in recent years. It is currently at circa £200million turnover with ambitious targets to grow to £500 million turnover by 2030. The business has decided that now is the right timing to hire its first ever lawyer to help facilitate that growth! You will take ownership of all things legal, mainly focussing on: · Leading on the drafting, reviewing and negotiation of commercial contracts with suppliers and customers. · Managing your internal clients within the business. · Advising on intellectual property and licensing matters. · Creating / implementing / updating legal operations and compliance policies e.g. GDRP, ESG, AML / ABC. · Management of external lawyers. · Advising / managing any other ad hoc legal matters i.e. litigation, employment, property. Given this is a sole legal counsel role the role requires a minimum of 5 years PQE and will be appropriate for someone seeking a true step up in responsibilities and exposure. Personality wise, this will suit a lawyer who enjoys working at pace and bringing their commercial acumen to the negotiation table. It is a friendly but fast paced environment, and your internal stakeholders will expect you to be able to balance the legal risk versus commercial reward. The business is operating a hybrid working policy and you will be required to commit to 3 days per week in the East Midlands HQ. The salary is £80,000 to £100,000 plus package.
