PLANNING LAWYER | INTERNATIONAL LAW FIRM | CITY OF LONDON
A standout opportunity has arisen for a talented Planning Lawyer with experience in infrastructure consenting to join a market-leading Planning team within a top-tier international law firm, based in London. This role will appeal to an ambitious planning lawyer with a passion for the energy and transport sectors, offering exposure to nationally significant infrastructure projects and the chance to work with some of the most respected names in the field.
THE ROLE
This is a chance to join a collaborative, nationally recognised planning practice that operates across five UK offices and forms part of a broader Real Estate group. The team is at the forefront of major infrastructure projects, with a thriving practice in Development Consent Orders, Transport & Works Act Orders, and marine and harbour consents.
You will be supported by a strong structure that prioritises individual development and long-term career progression, all within a genuinely friendly and high-performing environment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Advising on the full life-cycle of Development Consent Orders (DCOs) across energy, transport, and water projects
- Acting for both promoters and objectors on major schemes including ports, airports, rail, carbon capture, battery storage, and renewables
- Advising on Transport and Works Act Orders, harbour orders, marine licences, and hybrid Bills
- Providing strategic advice on statutory and non-statutory consultations, consents, and environmental issues
- Drafting secondary legislation and reviewing complex application documents
- Supporting public inquiries and examinations
- Advising on land assembly and compensation strategies
- Working closely with partners and senior lawyers to deliver on high-value, high-impact projects
THE CANDIDATE
To be considered for this opportunity, you will:
- Be a qualified solicitor in England & Wales with a minimum of 4 years' post-qualification experience in planning law, ideally with infrastructure consenting expertise
- Have demonstrable experience working on major projects within the energy or transport sectors
- Be comfortable advising on statutory frameworks and regulatory issues, including administrative and public law matters
- Possess strong stakeholder engagement skills and a commercial, consultative approach
- Show a commitment to personal growth and a genuine interest in the evolving landscape of infrastructure planning, including sustainability, net zero, and environmental regulation
