CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATE (CONTENTIOUS) | 3-5 PQE | LONDON A leading London law firm is seeking a talented and ambitious Contentious Construction Associate to join its highly regarded team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex, high-value construction and engineering disputes across the UK and internationally, advising on projects that are shaping the built environment. The firm has a well-established construction disputes practice, acting for a prestigious client base that includes developers, specialist and main contractors, funds, and cultural institutions. With a strong reputation for delivering successful outcomes, the team has been involved in some of the most significant cases in the sector, including the second-ever adjudication case before the Supreme Court. THE ROLE As a Contentious Construction Associate, you will be responsible for: - Handling complex disputes relating to domestic and international building, engineering, and development projects. - Advising clients on matters involving litigation, arbitration (domestic and international), adjudication, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). - Managing cases across a wide variety of sectors, including industrial, commercial, retail, investment, heritage, and infrastructure. - Providing strategic legal advice to clients on risk management and dispute avoidance. - Collaborating with internal teams and external experts, including counsel, consultants, and technical specialists. - Supporting on high-profile projects, including major developments like Hinkley Point nuclear power station, the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station, HS2, and significant London city projects such as 100 Bishopsgate. - Advising on substantial PFI projects across healthcare, education, infrastructure, and housing. THE CANDIDATE To be successful in this role, you should have: - 3-5 years' PQE with a strong focus on contentious construction law. - Proven experience in handling disputes through litigation, arbitration, adjudication, and other forms of ADR. - A solid understanding of key construction contracts, including JCT, NEC, and FIDIC. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex, technical legal issues. - Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience in drafting legal submissions and reports. - A client-focused approach and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships. - Enthusiasm to contribute to business development and the continued growth of the practice.
