Senior Associate - Construction Lawyer (Non-Contentious) - London
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a skilled Senior Associate to join a leading construction team at a leading international firm, based in the City of London. This role focuses on non-contentious construction law, offering exposure to a wide range of complex projects across the UK and internationally.
The team specialises in providing high-quality legal advice across all aspects of construction, development, and large-scale infrastructure projects. Working closely with clients, the team drafts, negotiates, and advises on procurement strategies, standard form contracts, bespoke agreements, and multi-party joint venture arrangements.
Key sectors include:
- Real estate, housing, and accommodation.
- Energy and renewables, including sustainability-focused projects.
- Healthcare, education, and regeneration schemes.
Core responsibilities:
- Drafting and negotiating standard form contracts, including JCT, NEC, and FIDIC, as well as bespoke agreements tailored to project-specific needs.
- Managing large-scale due diligence exercises and development arrangements.
- Advising on live project risks, including delays, payment issues, insolvency, and fire safety compliance.
- Supporting clients with innovative solutions to avoid disputes and advising on rights and responsibilities under existing agreements.
- Supervising and mentoring junior team members while managing a varied workload.
The team also works on international projects across multiple jurisdictions, leveraging a strong global network to provide seamless cross-border support.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor with 5+ years of post-qualification experience and a strong focus on non-contentious construction law. Key requirements:
- Extensive experience with standard form construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC, FIDIC) and their amendments.
- Familiarity with market norms and compromise positions in relevant sectors, particularly housing and accommodation.
- Confidence in managing bespoke and complex agreements with appropriate supervision.
- Proven ability to lead matters, organise files, and deliver high-quality client service.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to supervise and nurture junior lawyers.
- A proactive approach to business development and sector-specific knowledge sharing.
- A collaborative mindset, exceptional organisational skills, and a "can-do" attitude are essential for success in this role.
