Construction Lawyer (Non-Contentious) - London
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a driven and ambitious Associate to join a renowned, construction team at a leading international law firm, based in London. This position focuses on non-contentious construction law, offering exposure to high-profile domestic and international projects across various sectors.
This role is ideal for an Associate with 0-3 years of post-qualification experience and a strong foundation in non-contentious construction law.
The team delivers comprehensive construction law solutions across the full spectrum of projects undertaken in the industry. Their client base is diverse, including property developers, funders, contractors, subcontractors, public institutions, and private investors.
Core responsibilities include:
- Drafting, negotiating, and advising on standard form construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC, EPC) and bespoke agreements tailored to specific projects.
- Managing large-scale due diligence exercises and providing insights into rights and responsibilities under existing contracts.
- Advising on risk management during live projects, including insolvency issues, pay less notices, and dispute avoidance.
- Assisting clients with innovative solutions for sharing risk and achieving commercial objectives.
- Collaborating on international projects, often working alongside trusted global law firms and consultants to deliver seamless cross-border legal solutions.
The team frequently advises on complex, multi-jurisdictional matters and has significant experience in shaping commercial negotiations and deals to avoid disputes.
Candidate requirements:
- Proficiency in standard form contracts such as JCT, NEC, and EPC, including their standard amendments and market norms.
- Confidence in handling bespoke and complex agreements with appropriate supervision.
- Experience or interest in commercial or housing development projects.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to understanding the construction sector's nuances.
- Strong client relationship skills, with a willingness to engage in business development and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- A working knowledge of international construction projects and a global outlook is a significant advantage.
