Contracts Lawyer | 4-7 Years PQE | 12-Month FTC | In-House at a Leading International Law Firm | Birmingham BCL Legal is delighted to be assisting a leading international law firm in their search for a Contracts Lawyer to cover a family leave position on a 12-month fixed-term contract, starting around mid-October 2024. While this is a full-time position, candidates interested in part-time work (4 days per week) are encouraged to apply. Role Overview: As a Contracts Lawyer within the firm's Central Procurement and Contracts team, you will be instrumental in supporting the firm's procurement, contracting, and supplier management activities. This team, combines legal and procurement expertise, and operates as a centre of excellence, working closely with business functions across the firm. The role involves drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts that support the firm's operations in the UK and other jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities: Contracts: Draft, review, amend, and negotiate contracts for all business operations, from low to high value. Apply a pragmatic, commercial approach to contract work, often under tight deadlines. Collaborate with other team members and the buying community to align contracts with business and commercial needs. Procurement: Support sourcing activities and projects, including drafting term sheets and contracts for suppliers. Provide contract support as part of project teams for larger sourcing initiatives. Assist in producing reports for Business Operations Directors. Supplier Management: Address contract and commercial queries from the team and buying community members. Provide input on supplier exit strategies and assist with resolving supplier issues. Process and Administration: Guide the buying community on procurement processes, tools, and policy compliance. Help maintain the supplier contract database and promote the team's processes within the firm. Contribute to the development of templates, tools, and contract training for the firm's buyers. Assist with supplier-related aspects of client tender submissions and client audit questionnaires. Work with the team on objectives aligned with the firm's strategy. Candidate Requirements: Strong academic background with 4-7 years PQE, ideally in a general commercial or IT role, either in-house or in private practice at a reputable organisation. Technical excellence in contract drafting and negotiation, with a broad understanding of commercial agreements. Experience in IT, IP, and data protection is highly desirable. Ability to independently manage contract work with appropriate supervision. Strong commercial awareness, problem-solving skills, and a proactive, solution-driven approach. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact confidently with senior and junior staff. Strong team player with a focus on internal client service. Proficiency in Word is essential, with Excel and e-procurement/contract database skills being advantageous. What's on Offer: A dynamic and collaborative environment within a friendly team.
